Property Transfer Affidavit

Michigan law requires that a Property Transfer Tax Affidavit (PTA) be filed with the local assessor (city or township) upon the transfer of ownership of real property.  As used in the statute “transfer of ownership” means the conveyance of title to or present interest in real property or some personal property.

Principal Residence Exemption Guideline and Forms:

The following are forms that are used to request a Principal Residence Exemption (PRE), remove a PRE, or request to have an exemption on a home for sale.

Principal Residence Exemption Qualified Error Form

This form enables a taxpayer to file a request for a PRE in any year before the 3 immediately preceding tax years, for which the exemption was not on the tax roll as a result of a qualified error on the part of the local governmental unit.  The taxpayer is responsible for completing this request and submitting it, along with a $150 processing fee payable to the Michigan Department of Treasury and submitted to the Michigan Department of Treasury.  The required supporting documentation for each year the exemption is being requested must accompany this request.

Poverty Exemption Form and Guidelines:

Has there been changes to your income to the point where you may not be able to pay your property taxes this year?  You may be eligible for a property tax exemption.

Personal Property Forms

State of Michigan Public Act 161

Disabled Veterans Property Tax Exemption

The State of Michigan passed P.A. 161, which allows 100% Disable Military Veterans to claim a 100% exemption from property taxes for their principal residence.  In order to file, your affidavit and documentation just be filed with the township assessor by December 1, 2024.    Use link:  5107, State Tax Commission Affidavit for Disabled Veterans Exemption (michigan.gov)

Property Inquiry

Boyne Valley Township, working with BS&A software, has developed a web site where you can get all your parcel information and property tax information.  The system also lets you view your property on a Google Map.  You may also pay your property taxes online, however there are fees associated with this service.  Home | Boyne Valley Township | BS&A Online (bsaonline.com)
